Troy B. Culpepper
Troy Culpepper, 26, of North Platte was sentenced to 3-6 years in the penitentiary Monday for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Lincoln County District Judge Donald Rowlands issued the sentence.
Culpepper was arrested Sept. 4 after police found the stolen gun and a knife in his car. He was a suspect in an Aug. 29 burglary where four guns, a knife and $1,000 cash were taken.
Culpepper pled no contest to the weapons charge March 19 as part of a plea deal with the Lincoln County Attorney’s Office that dropped charges of burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of a stolen firearm.
District Judge Donald Rowlands warned Culpepper at an earlier court hearing that the charge he was pleading guilty to would carry a minimum of three years in the pen. Culpepper still agreed to the deal.
Culpepper was also arraigned in Lincoln County Court May 17 for six counts of failure to register as a sex offender. He was convicted of sexual assault of a minor in 2011 in Red Willow County. As part of his sentence, he was required to report to the sheriff’s office every 30 days, but, he had not since Nov. 10, adding up to six months, and therefore, six counts.
