The 16U North Platte Express fast-pitch team struggled May 18 at the Aloha Tournament in Lincoln.
In the first game of pool play, Mikenzi Wiseman and Aura Adkisson gave the Express a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past the Omaha Quakes-Red. Wiseman and Adkisson both went 2-3 at the plate, with Wiseman driving in two runs.
Kaite Franzen had a solid performance on the mound and the Express trailed 5-3 going into the sixth inning. But in the top of the sixth, the Quakes hit a two-run homerun to put the game out of reach and the Express fell 8-3.
In game two, the Express faced the tournament favorite, Nebraska Fury. The Express lost 13-1, plagued by errors. The Fury had some huge hits on the way to the win.
Reanna Crane was 1-1 at the plate, and Wiseman was 1-2 with an RBI double. Bri Schade took the loss on the mound.
The Express lost game three, 7-4, despite outhitting the Insanity. Christina Yoshida was hot from the plate as she went 2-2.
In the top of the second, the Insanity grabbed a 1-0 lead on a solo home run. The Express answered with a run of their own on Yoshida's RBI single.
The lead stayed with the Insanity after the third, scoring three runs on a double and an error. The Express pushed across one run in the bottom of the fifth, but eventually fell 4-2.
Kayln Hahn and Adkisson went 2-2 at the plate and Wiseman was 1-2 rounding out the Express's seven hits. Kaite Franzen had another solid pitching performance despite the losing effort.
