Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning announced Thursday that University of Nebraska-Kearney psychology professor Joseph J. Benz, Ph. D., 52, is charged with three counts of possession and distribution of child pornography.

Benz was arrested late Wednesday by the Kearney Police.

The arrest stems from an investigation by the Attorney General’s office cybercrimes unit, Bruning said.

Benz's home was searched Tuesday. Bruning said one computer revealed more than 20,000 questionable pornographic images.

Two other computers are also being investigated.

“Each time a pornographic image of a child is traded online, the child is revictimized,” said Bruning. “We will do everything in our power to ensure he is held accountable for this appalling exploitation.”
