Shelly Penner, the director of the American Red Cross in North Platte will speak at 2 p.m. Monday at the 20th Century Veterans Memorial in North Platte.

A new U.S. flag flies high above the memorial, and a new order of memorial bricks along the Walk of Honor is being filled.

Memorial bricks make excellent gifts for any veteran. Any U.S. soldier who served honorably at any time is eligible. There is room for another 2,200 bricks along the walk, organizers say.

For more information, contact the Lincoln County Visitors Center or the Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation.

The big 25-foot x 50-foot flag that flies over the memorial is replaced twice year. Contributions to help replace it can be made to the Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation.

The memorial is on the south side of the main I-80 interchange in North Platte.

In-person guided tours of the memorial are available by special arrangements at the office. The office is open from 1-5 p.m. on Thursday downtown on the first floor of the Pawnee Assisted Living Hotel. The phone number is 532-6579 or you can call the memorial secretary Wilma Salisbury at 636-2461.
