Art Study League honors four students Tell North Platte what you think

The North Platte’s Art Study League is honoring four high school seniors for outstanding achievements in art, league spokeswoman Wava Best said Tuesday.

The honorees are Katie Hinrich, Sam Morris, Cheyenne Schroeder and Joseph O’Malley.

The Art Study League will present their awards May 30 at the “Artists in Action” event at the Lake House from 5-8 p.m.

The Lake House is near the inlet of Lake Maloney. The event is being sponsored by Creativity Unlimited Arts Council.

The Art Study League is an art appreciation organization in North Platte and has been in existence for more than 26 years. It is comprised of artists and art enthusiasts who promote art in the community.


Katie Hinrich, a 2013 graduate from North Platte High School, is the daughter of Joe and Jacque Hinrich. Katie was active her junior year in the Art Tech Fair sponsored by North Platte Community College. During her senior year, she received honorable mention and Best of Show in the North Platte Art Show at the Art and Gift Gallery.


Sam Morris, a 2013 graduate from North Platte High School, is the son of Jack and Muffy Morris. He was enrolled in foundational art class as a freshman, Ceramics I as a sophomore, Ceramics II and sculpture as a junior, and advanced art study during his senior year.

Sam received second place for “Rowdy” and third place for a large pottery piece at the North Platte Art and Gift Gallery show.


Cheyenne Schroeder, a 2013 graduate of St Patrick’s High School, is the daughter of Francine and Michael Schroeder. She helped teach first grade art during her junior year and fourth grade art as a senior.

Cheyenne has received many awards including Best of Show her sophomore year at the SPHS art show. During her junior year she won a bonze medal at the NPHS Art Show, and she has received the University of Nebraska Young Artist Award and been named the St. Pat’s Artist of the Year. She also received an honorable mention for a self portrait, her senior year.


Joseph O’Malley is the son of William and Patricia O’Malley and a 2013 graduate of St. Patrick’s High School. His work was displayed during his sophomore, junior and senior years at the North Platte High School art shows and North Platte Community College art shows.

Joseph receive third place in the Catholic Daughters Art Show as a freshman, Honorable Mention on a chalk drawing as a sophomore and his Court Sculpture received an honorable mention as a senior.
