Casey Rey Lake of Grant was arrested a few days after her 19th birthday and charged with negligent vehicular manslaughter in the death of Emma Redinger, a passenger in a car Lake was driving.

Redinger died March 16 on Interstate-80 near Hershey. Lake was speeding when she lost control of the car, which rolled several times in the ditch.

The 2007 Pontiac four-door was traveling more than 100 miles an hour when it left the road three miles east of Hershey around 12:35 a.m., according to a reconstruction by the Nebraska State Patrol.

Alcohol was a factor, investigators said.

Redinger, 19, was the daughter of Bill and Lee Redinger of Ogallala.

Both women were transported to Great Plains Regional Medical Center. Lake was airlifted to a Denver medical facility with life-threatening injuries.

State Trooper J.J. Connelly, who also serves as Troop D accident re-constructionist, said Redinger was wearing a seatbelt but Lake was not.

Stephen Potter, Lake’s defense attorney, arranged for her to turn herself in on May 7, Lincoln County Attorney Rebecca Harling said.

Lake immediately posted 10 percent of a $50,000 bond and was released.
