Justin Belsky, 21, of North Platte, pled not guilty in Lincoln County District Court to nine counts of criminal mischief and one count of aiding and abetting criminal mischief. Belsky is thought to have been the leader of a shooting spree in August 2012 when windows on more than 200 vehicles and buildings were shot with BB guns. Several windows of a car at the mall were also bashed with a blunt object and both rear tires were slashed.
Police found Belsky driving a minivan with three juvenile passengers, one of them a girl. According to court records, Belsky and the passengers told officers that they had been driving around shooting windows.
Police said they found two rifle-style BB guns, plus a pistol-style BB gun, in the van.
One of the juveniles told officers that the BB gun used for the shootings had been reloaded with more than 300 rounds during the spree.
Police said two of the three juveniles in the van, the girl and one boy, were under 15 and not directly involved. They were cited for curfew violation and released. Damage reports rolled in to police for several days and added up to hundreds of windows and upwards of $62,000.
