LINCOLN-Allexis Menghini, Evan Lamphear, Ace Haws and Catelyn Lee of North Platte High School won district titles on Wednesday at the district meet at Beechner Field.The NPHS boys' team, who qualified 11 athletes for next week's state meet, finished in second place with 95 points. Millard South, the team champion, had 109 points.
The North Platte girls, who qualified 10 for state, finished in fifth place with 59 points. Lincoln East won the team title with 145 points.
Menghini, the two-time defending Class A champion in the pole vault, made her return to action after missing most of the season with a broken foot. But she shook off the rust by winning districts with a vault of 11-feet, 7-inches, a new high for Class A this year.
Menghini was one of three Lady Bulldog vaulters to qualify for state. Tori Kurth finished in third place at 9-2 and Rachel Kosmacek was fourth at 8-2.
Catelyn Lee also won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.2 seconds.
Others qualifying for state for the North Platte girls were Kaitlynn Harvey (long jump, 400 relay), Hope Wilke (shot put), Madison Raska (100 meters, 400 relay), Talia Martinez (800 meters), Remingten Elsen (400 relay) and Hannah Hays (400 relay).
For the boys, Lamphear won the pole vault with a height of 14-2 and Marcos Avalos finished third in the event at 13-2.
Haws won the 3200 meters with a time of 9:51.73, just ahead of teammate Wyatt McGuire who finished second.
The duo also placed in the 1600, where McGuire finished second and Haws was fourth.
Caleb Dodge finished second in four events - the long jump, the triple jump, and the 110 and 300-meter hurdles.
The NPHS boys will have its 400 and 3200 meter relays going to state. The 3200 meter relay team of Joe Godfrey, Dale Ragle, Haws and McGuire finished in fourth place, as did the 400 meter relay with Grant Holscher, Alec Wesslund, Austin Chitty and Jake Zimbelman.
Wesslund also qualified in the 200 meters where he finished sixth.
