His body was reported by passerby, police spokesman Rodney Brown said.

Brown said police responded to the call around 6:50 a.m. on the south side of Centennial Park. Emergency medical responders arrived and declared the man deceased.

Brown said there was no evidence of foul play and Russell's death is classified as accidental, pending an investigation by county attorney, including toxicology reports.

Russell once served time in the pententiary for repeated offenses of driving without a license, but had a good record for the last nine years.

He worked for Weathercraft and also was a self-employed mechanic who helped many people in his lifetime, friends and family said.

He is survived by wife Beverly of North Platte and children Jeremy Boyd of Lakemoor, Ill., Catherine Perez of North Platte, Robert Russell of North Platte; Sheila Russell of Kansas; his parents Howard and Eldora Russell, Sr. of Chappell; five grandchildren -- Zoe, Connor, Alex, Ryleigh and Julyanna.

Russell also leaves several siblings: Herb Russell of North Platte, Lyle (Lisa) Russell of Garden City, David (Rojean) Russell of Benton, Kans., Stan Russell and Brad Russell both of North Platte, Charlotte (Harvey) Wendell of Garden City, Brenda (Victor) Smith of North Platte and numerous other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Kevin and Stacy and infant daughter Shawna.

Cremation was chosen and a private family service will be held at a later date.

Adams & Swanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
