An SUV tipped over on its side after the driver lost control Friday afternoon near North Platte's busy I-80 and U.S. Highway 83 interchange.
Gerald Smith, 66, of North Platte, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
According to North Platte Police Officer Hagen, Smith was travelling north on U.S. 83 when he suffered a coughing fit that caused him to become semi-conscious as he was nearing the bridge.
Smith lost control and his 2000 Chevy Suburban hit the east curb of the highway, sending him into the guardrail.
His vehicle tipped up, ending up on the driver's side.
Smith suffered a slight injury to his hand and a cut on his forehead, Hagen said. He was wearing a seat restraint and complained of some rib pain possibly caused by the seatbelt. He was taken to Great Plains Regional Medical Center for further examination.
The accident happened around 2:20 p.m, delaying traffic while a rescue crew took control.
The SUV was damaged on the driver’s side and on the front end, but not heavily, Hagen said.
