Nebraskaland Days and Midwest Championship Fighting officials will partner on a fight night to open the annual summer festival.
The night of mixed martial arts fights, called “Midwest Championship Fighting 7 Wild Wild West” will start at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 8 in the Wild West Arena.
Nebraskaland Days opening ceremonies will be held that afternoon at 4:45 p.m., followed by the Wild West micro-brew fest at 5 p.m., Nebraskaland Days Executive Director David Fudge said.
Fudge said adding the fights to Nebraskaland Days is a recognition of changing times.
“Consumers are looking for new and exciting events, and MCF certainly brings that to the table,” he said.
MCF promoter Russ Jones said tying in with Nebraska’s official state celebration will be good for the future of his organization.
“What Nebraskaland Days brings to the table is an established event with a facility that lends itself well to spectator events,” Jones said. “We hope to continue growing our events, and this venue allows us to do that.”
The sixth MC fights drew a record crowd of nearly 2,500 people in March to North Platte’s D&N Events Center. Organizers think MCF7 could be even bigger.
The card includes MCF Heavyweight Champion Rob Mitchell of North Platte among several fighters.
