Donald Warfield, 70, of North Platte was convicted Monday of sex assault of a child.
Warfield pled no contest to an amended charge. He was initially charged in June with first-degree assault. The charge was lowered to third-degree.
Warfield lived in a trailer on the victim’s family’s property and inappropriately touched the underage female victim, now 16, beginning when she was seven-years-old and continuing for 3-4 years, prosecutors said.
Warfield will be sentenced May 20. He faces up to 5 years in prison and might have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. The length of time he will have to register will be based on his past records, according to the court.
There is no statute of limitations in Nebraska on child sexual assault.
Warfield was also arrested a year ago for failing to register as a sex offender from a 2002 conviction of third-degree sexual assault on an 11-year-old girl.
Warfield has been in the Lincoln County Jail since he was arrested June 11, held on a $125,000 bond, according to sheriff's records.
