It may have only been about 40 degrees on Tuesday afternoon but the North Platte High School girls' soccer team was on fire at home against Norfolk.

The Lady Bulldogs put on a shooting display, making shots from all angles and long distances, en route to a 5-0 win over the Panthers.

It was a focused effort, NPHS coach Sarah Kaminski said.

"We talked about not worrying about districts (next week) or the weather and I told them to play their game," said Kaminski. "They played really well together."

North Platte (10-2) scored the first goal in the 16th minute when Maggie Bianco made a shot from straightaway 25 yards away.

Five minutes later Kaysee Lewis buried a shot from the left side that went in through the right side of the net.

It wasn't another five minutes before it became 3-0 when Morgan Hansen launched one from 30 yards away that went over the hands of Norfolk goalie Bethannie Buckels and in.

"We talk about persevering and to keep shooting no matter what," Kaminski said. "The girls have gotten more patient and they know to keep firing."

The score remained 3-0 at halftime and little changed in the second half. The Lady Dawgs still had control of the ball about 80-percent of the time.

They scored two more goals. Lewis added her second goal in the 57th minute and then Alex Neff scored six minutes later to close the scoring.

"A lot of that control of the ball started with our defense," said Kaminski. "They did a good job of pursuing the ball and getting it collected."
