Earth Resources Day set ThursdayTell North Platte what you think

Earth Resources Day will be held Thursday at the West Central Research & Extension Center in North Platte to introduce middle school students to the earth’s resources and how to preserve them.

Session topics may include: trees, soils, insects, plants, water, and native grasses, said UNL Educator Brenda Aufdenkamp.

The full-day program will run from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. with students rotating between 8 sessions.

This event is free to all participating schools. Students are asked to bring their own sack lunch.

The majority of sessions will be held outside, so students should dress accordingly.

In case of bad weather, the event will be cancelled.

Many of the hands-on activities will align with the following Nebraska State Education Content Standards.

• 8.1 Unifying Concepts and Processes

• 8.4 Life Science

• 8.7 Science in Personal and Social Perspectives

• 8.8 History and Nature of Science

• 8.3 Civics and Economics

• 8.5 Data Analysis, Probability, and Statistical Concepts

For more information, contact Aufdenkamp at 348 West State Farm Road in North Platte or baufdenkamp1@unl.edu.
