North Platte Community College music instructor Elizabeth Peters will present a lecture on and recital of 20th Century American composer Charles Ives at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Recital Hall.
The recital, titled “A Life with Music: The Songs of Charles Ives,” is part of a masters capstone project that Peters has worked on for the past few semesters.
“Ives was very eclectic and innovative in his music and this recital showcases sentimental tunes, to cowboy themed songs, to 20th century classical songs,” she said. “What is really neat about Ives is that music was not his primary line of work. Instead he was a very successful businessman who wrote music in his spare time after work. Amazing brilliance!”
Peters, who is a vocal student of Dr. Anne Foradori of UNK, will be accompanied by Nancy Curry. The recital will include a guest appearance by Allison Fletcher on the piccolo.
The recital is free and open to the public.
