Girl Scouts need $30,000 to finish Lake Maloney cabinTell North Platte what you think

The Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska have received a $75,000 pledge from the Peter Kiewit Foundation for the Lakeview Cabin at Lake Maloney.

Pursuant to Kiewit requirements, the Girl Scouts needed to raise $100,000 to obtain the Kiewit matching grant. After much effort, $30,000 is all that remains to close this fundraising gap, said Sandy Nelson of the Scouts.

"As we reach the final stretch of this initiative, we ask our loyal Girl Scout supporters to consider donating just $5, $10, or $25 toward the Lakeview Cabin goal," Nelson said.

Lakeview Cabin has been providing lasting memories for girls in western Nebraska for more than 50 years. Since the new cabin opened in October, 82 Girl Scouts (girls and leaders) have camped at Lakeview. The cabin allows two groups to utilize the facility at the same time doubling the number of troops and girls that will be able to enjoy the facility and its grounds.

The cabin is also available for lease and thus far 164 guests have taken advantage of renting the property.

Your financial support will help Girl Scouting and the community for many years to come, Nelson said.

For additional information or to make a donation, contact the Guiding Star Service Center by phone at 800 458-4467 or Jennifer Schall by email at jschall@girlscoutsnebraska.org.
