Rousing finale

A Broadway Cabaret opened this weekend and continues next weekend at the North Platte Community Playhouse.

This is a unique show, featuring two hours of Broadway’s greatest songs from a variety of shows, performed by a variety of North Platte's best performers, Playhouse Manager Scott Carlson said.

In addition to a 23-member cast, former Miss Nebraska Jennifer Love Timmons will perform next weekend. Timmons will sing a solo from "Les Miserables" and also a duet from "Wicked" with Debra Sylvia.

Timmons currently teaches private voice in Denver.

The cabaret features selections such as "The Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha, performed by Dick Hall, “Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat” from Guys and Dolls, “Do You Hear the People Sing,” from Les Miserables, “Brotherhood of Men” from How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, “Suppertime” from You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, “I’m Gonna Wash that Man Right Outta My Hair” from South Pacific and many more.

The directors are Mary Lynn Horst and Karen Matthies, who play piano and keyboard in the show, backed by Virgil French on woodwinds and Greg Todd on percussion.

The four-person orchestra is on stage throughout the entire show.

Matthies said Broadway Cabaret has music from 20 different shows.

"We feel like we've chosen the best songs from the best shows," she said. "We have a great cast of 10 men and 13 women, who will perform solos, duets, as small groups and as the entire ensemble."

The cast has several veteran performers as well as some newcomers. For instance, six cast members from the original 1992 North Platte production of "Sound of Music" who played the VonTrapp family will perform, joined by three others to replicate the nine VonTrapp family members from the Sound of Music.

Four performances will be held, two on April 20-21 and wo April 27-28, with Saturday curtains at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. There will be no Friday night performances.

Tickets are available online at www.northplattecommunityplayhouse.com, by calling (308) 532-8559, or at the door at each performance.

Admission is $15 for adults and $8 for children and students.

The cast:

Donna Pucket, Sherry Roehrs, Martha Orcutt, Anne Schmit, Tiffany Wood, Amariah Hodgen, Debra Sylvia, Susan Williams, Bea Webster, Mindy Guenin, Flo Gonzales-Todd, Traci Sawyer, Mike Crom, Brian Horst, Seth Vapenik, Dick Hall, Scott Carlson, Jim Shreck, Carl Rippy, Darrell Drullinger and Dan O’Neill.
