The annual Friends of the Library book sale at the North Platte Public Library will be held Thrus.-Fri., April 18-20.
Due to a large number of books, the sale will be in two locations:
• The regular book sale will be at the North Platte Public Library, 120 W 4th St.
• The Special Collector's Book Sale will be held across the street at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior, 203 W 4th.
The hours differ between the two sites. Sale times are listed below.
The collector's sale will only be held on Thursday and Friday.
However, a members-only sale will be held Thursday at both sites, for Friends of the Library members. Inexpensive yearly memberships can still be purchased that day.
On Saturday, the regular sale closes temporarily at noon and then reopens at 1 p.m. as a bag sale. Fill a personal tote bag or provide a paper bag for only $2 plus tax during the sale.
The RSVP volunteers will also host a bake sale at the library during the book sale hours.
The increase in items is largely due to a very large donation of items last summer from the Elden Burcham Estate.
Burcham was a known genealogist, accomplished scientist and avid collector of books and other items.
The Library added some of Burcham's books to their collections. Many items were duplicates, older editions, or too unique or rare for the library’s use. Those items were given to the Friends of the Library and they are sharing them with the world through this special collector’s sale.
In addition to Burcham's books, other smaller donations from the community are included in the collectors sale.
Funds will benefit the Friends of the Library, who have several projects they want to accomplish that will enhance and benefit the library.
