Twenty-year-old sentenced for child abuseTell North Platte what you think

Conner Pitre, 20, of North Platte was sentenced to 351 days in Lincoln County District Court Monday on a reduced charge of child abuse.

Pitre was originally charged with sexual assault of a child when he was arrested in November, but the charges were amended to child abuse.

Investigations showed that Conner was in a consensual relationship with the underage girl.

The girl’s parents knew about the relationship and allowed it to continue.

Deputy Lincoln County Attorney Jennifer Wellan asked for probation, as was recommended in the pre-sentence investigation, but District Judge Donald Rowlands disagreed and sentenced Conner to 321 days in the county jail, with credit for 152 days served.

Defense Attorney Martin Troshynski told the court that the girl’s parents even asked Conner to move into their home.

“Conner had plans to marry the girl after she finished high school,” Troshynski said.

Visibly irritated, Rowlands told Pitre that he didn’t believe someone his age did not know it was illegal to be with a girl that young.

“I don’t understand why the girl’s mother isn’t up here in front of me on charges,” Rowlands said. “A parent that invites someone to live in their home to continue a sexual relationship with their underage daughter should be brought up on charges.”

Rowlands noted that Pitre had no prior record “so I’m not sending you to the pen, but I won’t go along with probation.”

Because the charges were amended to remove the sexual connotations, Pitre will not be required to register as a sexual offender.
