Drew A. Steier
Would-be bank robber Drew Steier was sentenced Monday to a year-and-a-half to 3 years in prison for trying to rob the Farmer’s State Bank in Wallace.
Drew Steier, 21, of Evanston, Wyo. was one of two men who made a stab at robbing the bank in August.
Steier pled no contest to the charge.
Steier did not complete the robbery attempt. He left the bank frustrated after tellers told him they could not give him money because it was all locked up.
He and accomplice Tracy Black, also of Evanston, Wyo. drove out of town on a back road in Black’s truck but were caught about an hour later near Imperial on Nebraska Highway 61.
Steier has already spent 238 days in the county jail since his arrest. His sentence will be reduced accordingly.
Black was convicted Jan. 28 of the same charge and received the same sentence on March 25. Before Black was sentenced, Defense Attorney Bob Lindemeier told the court that the whole thing started from drinking, when Steier started saying, “Let’s go rob a bank.”
Lindemeier said Black tried to talk Steier out of it, but after more drinks Black gave in, but said he would only drive and not get out of the vehicle.
