The U.S. Forest Service reminds the public that they have until Sunday to comment about the prospect of increased motorized access to the Nebraska National Forest.
This will be the only opportunity to comment on this project.
Tim Buskirk, Bessey District Ranger said, “We’ve had a number of good comments thus far. We just want to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to provide their input to our proposal.”
The proposed travel management changes are intended to provide more motorized access on existing user-created routes in several areas of the Samuel R. McKelvie National Forest and the Bessey Division of the Nebraska National Forest near Halsey, Buskirk said. Implementation is anticipated in February, with the publication of a new Motor Vehicle Use Map.
Comments must be received by April 14 to be considered in the final analysis of the proposed action, which then provides the commenter standing for an appeal.
Interested persons may stop by the Bessey Ranger District office to view maps and information from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 40637 River Loop, near Halsey, or call (308) 533-2257.
