Donations to help Bridge of Hope Tell North Platte what you think

New equipment will improve the recording system at The Bridge of Hope Advocacy Center in North Platte, where victims of domestic abuse are often interviewed.

The advocacy center will receive a $2,500 check at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in a ceremony at NebraskaLand National Bank.

The money is donated through the courtesy of a half-dozen businesses as well as from drug funds -- money that was seized in drug busts.

The Lincoln County Drug Fund contains the countyís share of drug money as well money from the sale of property seized during drug arrests.

That money goes first to the federal government, but 10 percent is eventually returned to the county, Chief Deputy Sheriff Roland Kramer said.

Kramer said the money can be used for anything related to drug enforcement. Drug funds have been used in the past to buy equipment for a joint effort of law enforcement agencies in several counties to crack down on illegal drug use.

County Attorney Rebecca Harling chairs the board that manages the countyís drug fund.

Other donors to the new equipment at the Bridge of Hope are the Hershey Lionís Club, the Thrift Center, Cabelas, Bill Summerís Ford as well as Wal-Mart Supercenter stores in McCook and North Platte.

With the donations, the Bridge of Hope will buy the first phase of the new recording equipment. The new equipment will cost a total of $15,000.

The Bridge of Hope Advocacy Center provides shelter as well as forensic interviews of children who have been abused or neglected, exposed to domestic violence, exposed to illicit drug use, or recovered from kidnapping.
