Shannon Schroeder has bowled the first 300 game by a woman in a sanctioned league in North Platte. Schroeder pulled off the feat on March 21. She knocked down every pin on her first ball during the second game of the series. She was competing in the scratch doubles league.
"I felt good through the first nine," Schroeder said, "but I was really nervous on the 10th. I threw it a little light and the 5 and 7 pins stood up, but then another pin came across and knocked the 5 into the 7."
Schroder was shaking as she got ready to throw her 11th. The ball sailed across the lane and hit the Brooklyn pocket. The 10 pin wobbled a little and went down.
"On the 12th, I took a deep breath and told myself to just let it go, and it was a perfect strike," she said.
The league stopped play and everyone came over to congratulate her. It took about 10 minutes for play to resume.
As the news spread, everyone became aware that she was the first North Platte woman to get a perfect game in the history of sanctioned leagues in town.
She said a friend of hers predicted it.
"After I got the sixth one, he said 'You're gonna get your perfect game tonight,'" she said. "I said yeah, whatever."
Afterwards he said, "I called it."
Schroeder had bowled a 152 in her first game. After the 300 she capped the series with a 181 for a 633 total.
Then she called her mother. Everyone was posting the news on their facebooks and Schroeder wanted to be sure her mother heard it from her.
"She was going crazy on the phone," Schroeder said.
Afterwards, Schroeder bowled in another league. She was so giddy she doesn't really remember what her score was now.
She went out afterwards and celebrated.
Her previous high game score was 280 about four years ago, said Eloise Shuck of the Women’s Bowling Association.
Schroeder also has a 763 series to her credit, about two years ago.
Now she is gunning for an 800 series.
"I should have had it then (2010)," she said. "I left the 10th frame open all three games or I'd have had it easily."
She has bowled for 24 years. She currently bowls in three leagues and carries near a 185 average in all of them, Shuck said.
