Behind strong performances by Caleb Dodge and Wyatt McGuire on Thursday, the North Platte High School boys' track and field team finished in third place at the Buffalo Bill Invite."I am fairly pleased with the third place finish," said NPHS coach Mike McGuire. "We thought if things broke just right for us, we had an outside chance of winning it. But it was good to get top three."
Dodge and McGuire had both first place finishes for the Bulldogs. Dodge won the triple jump with a distance of 43-feet and five inches. The senior also finished third place in the 100 meter hurdles.
"Caleb had one of his best overall days," McGuire said. "But the best thing about today is that we got him through the meet healthy."
Wyatt McGuire wasn't at 100-percent due to a nagging knee injury but that didn't deter the junior from winning the 3200 meter run and finishing second in the 1600.
McGuire's winning time in the 3200 was 10:03.60. In the 1600, he clocked in at 4:41.96. Trevor Rosno of Hastings won the event, coming in nearly two seconds before McGuire.
"Wyatt's been battling a knee issue and he hasn't done as much training as we want him," said McGuire. "He's been spending time on the bike and he hasn't run in practice. So to do what he did was impressive."
