Ironically, the sirens went off under clear blue skies.

Radio and television broadcasters also sent out an extensive test warning of a tornado. The broadcast was aired between 10-11 a.m.

Major businesses and public services were encouraged to run-through their emergency weather procedures.

Emergency notification systems all across Nebraska were tested Wednesday morning in conjunction with Severe Weather Awareness Week.

Tests are conducted each year at this time. The sirens sounded in and around North Platte for about one minute.

The tests begin in western Nebraska and proceed eastward, Lincoln County Emergency Manager Dan Guenthner said.
