The county commissioners opened a half-dozen bids for each vehicle. Road Superintendent Jerry Hitchcock said he would review the offers and bring back his recommendations next week.

There were seven bids for a new or used semi-truck with prices ranging from $82,000 to $102,000, county clerk Becky Rossell said.

All the semi-trucks that were offered were 2013 models except one 2012 model.

For the pickup, the county received six bids, ranging in price from $24,640 to $28,727. Like the semi-trucks, one pickup is a 2012 model and the others are 2013 models, Rossell said.

The commissioners are expected to award the bids next week beginning at 9:20 a.m.

Brady lots

In other business, the board set a fair market value for two lots of land in the southeast part of Brady.

The land is inaccessible by roads. Property owners Tammie and Sam Taullie, who own land next to the lots, asked the county a month ago if they could buy the lots. The commissioners had no immediate objections, but state law has certain requirements. First, the county has find out the fair market value of the lots, then hold a public hearing, and then advertise the lots for sale, according to Deputy County Attorney Joe Wright.

The fair market value of each lot is $360, Rossell said.

The public hearing is set at 9:30 a.m. on April 15.
