Students from seven area high schools submitted 110 projects in the health science meet at North Platte Community College on Thursday.

Schools participating included Chase County, Garden County, Gothenburg, Kearney Catholic, Ogallala, and St. Patrick’s in North Platte and McCook.

The students were expected to create a display showing the progress of a project, write a short research report with a bibliography, give a brief presentation explaining their project, and answer questions.

The projects were to be either informative or experimental in nature and the scientific method followed. Students presented their projects to 28 volunteer judges, including faculty, staff and members of the community.

Throughout the meet, students had the opportunity to attend breakout sessions in health and science related activities.

The students competed to attend the Nebraska Junior Academy Science Fair in Lincoln in April. Eighth-graders also had the chance to be invited to the three-day State Science Meet at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha in June.

The meet was co-sponsored by NPCC, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the Central Nebraska Area Health Education Center, and the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures.
