The North Platte Community College women’s basketball season came to an end Thursday as they were beat at the National Tournament in a consolation game.
The Lady Knights lost 93-55 to the Iowa Central Community College Lady Tritons.
The Lady Knights (15-16) started out slow as the Tritons raced out to a 40-14 lead in the first half. In the second half, the Lady Knights found the basket more often and scored 40 points.
For the game, the Lady Knights shot 21-60 for 35 percent from the field while the Lady Tritons shot 34-71 or 48 percent from the field. The Lady Tritons also forced the Lady Knights into 28 turnovers.
The Lady Knights had four players in double figures, led by Candice Shelton with 13 points. Courtney Widick contributed 12 points and both DaVontaye Merritt and Paige Hasty had 10 points and six rebounds.
Babaye Oja led all scorers with 22 points for the Tritons.
The Lady Knights were the Region IX DII Champions. They won the regular season with a 3-1 record to earn the #1 seed and then defeated Southeast Community College in the postseason playoff game.
The Lady Knights then went on to win the District F Championship to advance to the national tourament, defeating Dakota College at Bottineau.
