Thunderbirds overpower Lady Knights at NationalsTell North Platte what you think

The Region IX Champion North Platte Community College Lady Knights (15-15) womenís basketball team lost NJCAA DII Basketball National Championship Tuesday as they fell 63-35 to the #1 seed Mesa Community College (25-6) Thunderbirds.

On Thursday at 11 am, NPCC (15-15) will play Iowa Central Community College in a loser's bracket game of the double-elimination tournament.

The Lady Knights struggled to find the basket in the first half as they shot 21 percent from the field on 5-24 shooting.

At the half the Lady Knights trailed 28 to 15. In the second half the Lady Knights again struggled to find the basket as they shot 26 percent on 7-27 shooting.

A large part of the poor shooting was behind the 3-point line as the Lady Knights shot 1 for 15 for the game. Paige Hasty hit the only 3-point shot.

Hasty was the leading scorer for the Lady Knights as she scored 18 points and had four rebounds. No one else had more than four points for the Lady Knights.

The Thunderbirds had two players in double figures as Madison Austin was the leading scorer with 17 points and Nicole Tsosie scored 13. The Thunderbirds were able to create shots for each other as they finished with 20 assists on 26 made baskets.
