NPCC Knights softball ends spring break road tripTell North Platte what you think

The North Platte Community College Softball team (2-13) dropped two games against South Mountain Community College Friday. The Knights lost the opening game 4-10 while the second game was a tightly contested 6-7 loss in eight innings.

In the opening game, Delaney Furnish took the loss for the Knights on the mound, giving up nine hits and one walk. Defensively the Knights gave up eight unearned runs and had seven errors.

Offensively Kimberley Silva led the Knights as she went 3-4 with three singles and three RBIs. Furnish and Kaitlin Borm also contributed hits as Furnish went 2-3 with two singles and Borm went 1-1 with an RBI single.

The Knights left nine on base.

In the nightcap, the Knights fell 6-7 in eight innings. Morgan Keyzer took the loss as she gave up 10 hits and one walk. The Knights defense had three errors and gave up three unearned runs. Lydia Lusk went 2-3 with a double and two sacrifice flies for the Knights. Hannah Allgood went 3-4 for the game. Tiffany Brasby and Siarra Velasquez both had doubles.

The Knights left 10 runners in scoring position.

"We played one of our best games of the year (in the second game)," said head coach Janelle Higgins. "We finally played a full game. We still had our one inning of mental lapse going into the extra inning as the heat got to us (95). It was good to see us finally play the level of ball we can play. We got better every game and we will carry that into games this week back at home."

The Knights head home after completing their 10-day road trip as school resumes at North Platte Community College on Monday after spring break. The Knights won't be home long as they head to McCook on Tuesday to take on the McCook Community College Lady Indians in a double header at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Knights then turn around and head to Scottsbluff Wednesday to take on the Western Nebraska Community College Lady Cougars in a double-header at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The Knights return home Friday to take on the Otero Junior College Lady Rattlers at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the Dowhower Complex.
