Redinger was riding with 18-year-old Casey Lake of Grant, the Nebraska State Patrol said. Lake lost control and over-corrected. The car rolled several times and ended up in the ditch, according to the Patrol.

The wreck occurred about 3 miles east of Hershey at 12:35 a.m. The two were headed west, toward home.

Redinger was wearing a seatbelt but the Nebraska State Patrol says it is possible that it might not have been applied correctly, but that is speculative at this point, State Trooper J.J. Connelly said Monday.

Lake was not wearing a seatbelt and was airlifted to Denver with severe injuries.

The accident is being reconstructed, Connelly said.
