District speech competition held March 11 at Perkins County High School.

The North Platte St. Patrick’s speech team took third place honors at districts and four of the Irish finished in the top three in their events, ensuring them a trip to state:

The state qualifiers are:

• Jared Brosius and Jared Gafke - 1st Duet Acting.

• Thomas Campbell and Jacob Stadler - 3rd Duet Acting.

• Jared Gafke - 2nd Extemporaneous Speaking.

The state speech meet will be held in Kearney on March 22.

Kim Boyer is the St. Pat’s speech coach.

Irish team results

Jenna Torres, 4th in Poetry; Macy Granger, 5th in Entertainment Speaking; Bryan Shurigar, 6th in Entertainment Speaking. OID Team (Emma Lindemeier, Elli Wid, Allison Waltman, Eleanor Aufdenkamp), 6th place. Brandon Adkins, 6th, Extemporaneous Speaking. Tristen Winder, 6th in Informative Speaking. Jared Brosius, 4th place in Serious Prose.
