Lady Knights softball lose games in ArizonaTell North Platte what you think

The North Platte Community College Softball team (2-11) continued their road trip on Monday and Tuesday as the Knights fell to the College of Southern Nevada in a double header 1-7 and 1-4 and Glendale Community College in a double header 2-10 and 3-7.

In the first game against the College of Southern Nevada Josilyn Richardson took the 1-7 loss for the Knights on the mound as she gave up six hits, one walk and had three strikeouts. The Knights defense had six errors and gave up three unearned runs.

Offensively the Knights were led by Lydia Lusk who went 1-2 and Siarra Velasquez who went 1-2 with a walk, stolen base and a run scored. The Knights left two runners in scoring position.

“We hurt ourselves on offense as we struck out at the wrong times and only had two hits,” said head coach Janelle Higgins.

In the second game of the double header the Knights had opportunities to score but left five runners in scoring position and fell 1-4.

The Knights were led from the plate by Erin Beverage who went 1-2 with a hit by pitch and an RBI single and Kimberley Silva who was 1-3 with a double. Delaney Furnish took the loss as she gave up four hits, one walk and two hit by pitches. The Knights defense had one error and gave up two unearned runs.

“Today we played a very well rounded team with speed and power,” said Higgins.

In the opening game of the double header with Glendale Community College the Knights fell 2-10 with Morgan Keyzer taking the loss on the mound. Keyzer gave up four hits, one walk and had two strikeouts.

The Knights gave up eight unearned runs, had six errors and left three runners in scoring position. The bats for the Knights were again quiet as they had seven strikeouts and combined for three hits, one each by Siarra Velasquez, Ashley Campbell and Alexis Bryant.

In game two of the double header with Glendale the Knights fell 3-7. Josilyn Richardson took the loss for the Knights with five hits, two strikeouts and no walks. The Knights were led by Kimberly Silva, 2-4 with a double, Katharine Savolt, 2-3 with two singles and an RBI, and Lydia Lusk, 2-4 with two singles and an RBI.

Coach Higgins said, “We faced a team (Glendale Community College) that is a filter school to Arizona State University and University of Arizona that had speed that we have not faced before.”

“We knew this trip was going to be a very tough trip for us as we are facing teams that have been playing outside all year and have 30 games under their belt. We are struggling as a very young team; we must push through our growing pains. We have the athletic ability, commitment and work ethic to pull through this. We just have to score more runs and play better defense to put us in a winning position.”
