An Omaha teen with evidently too much spring fever and was stopped Friday after the motorcycle he was driving was clocked at 139 miles an hour in a 55 mph zone.

The male driver was cited for several traffic violations, Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins said.

Collins said just after 4 p.m. on Friday, the Nebraska State Patrol helicopter clocked a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle traveling 139 mph in a 55 mph zone north on Highway 6 near the Sarpy/Douglas County line.

Troopers stopped the motorcycle near 156th & Q streets.

Collins said the 18-year old driver was cited and released for willful reckless driving, speeding, no proof of insurance, operating an unregistered vehicle and no motorcycle endorsement.

“As we move into spring and summer, we typically see an increase in motorcycles on our roads,” said Col. David Sankey, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “While motorcycles have the same rights and privileges as other vehicles on the road they must also obey the same rules as well.”

The Nebraska State Patrol reminds motorcyclists they must have a motorcycle endorsement and that state law requires motorcycle riders and passengers to wear a DOT - compliant helmet.
