The man who tried to rob the Farmer’s State Bank in Wallace was convicted Monday after he pled no contest in Lincoln County District Court. Drew Steier, 20, of Evanston, Wyo. will be sentenced April 8. He will undergo a presentence investigation. Lincoln County Attorney Rebecca Harling went ahead and recommended a 1-3 year sentence. Steier went inside the bank in Wallace Aug. 13 wearing a mask and carrying what appeared to be a handgun. The tellers told Steier they had no access to the money and it was locked up. He waved the gun around, and then left the bank. The gun turned out to be a plastic toy. Tracy Black, 53, also from Evanston, drove the getaway truck. They were arrested about an hour later near Imperial on Nebraska Highway 61. Black was convicted on Jan. 28 and is scheduled to be sentenced on March 25.
