The board of directors announced Criddle’s hiring Tuesday. He replaced Roy Lawton, who was hired in June and resigned in October.

Criddle has been in law enforcement for most of his career. He was a North Platte police officer for nine years after a stint on the Aberdeen S.D. police force.

More recently, he was a manager at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center for five years.

His wife Heidi manages Heidi’s restaurant downtown in the Parkade Plaza.

Criddle will "positively impact the cause of helping the homeless in our region," said Jim Nelson, the president of the Connection’s board of directors.

Criddle will oversee daily operations, public relations and financial aspects. He said he will work to keep the facility an important and viable resource to North Platte and he looks forward to working with the community.

“Financial stability is important,” he said, “and keeping up what’s going on with grants will be challenging. We plan on having the International Dinner in October (a fundraiser) and I will be exploring other fundraising ideas too.”

The Criddles found North Platte while they were on a trip to Colorado. They liked the size of the town and the way it looked.

“I went to the police department and asked for an application,” Criddle said. “They gave me one and told me the deadline was that day, and we’ve been here since.”

Criddle said The Connection is running smoothly and he has no plans for any big changes right away.

Nelson said The Connection is thrilled to have Criddle.

“Neal is uniquely qualified to lead the way by working with and galvanizing the efforts of The Connection board, our partners and community leaders,” Nelson said.

I hope he does something good about the Thrift Store ..the people that run it and the people that do the volentering.. I think there are to many chiefs and not enough indians.. They are getting very unfriendly and are just play stingy about the things that cone in and go out. Seems the workers want everything that is good and want your customers to take the stuff that is left.. Is this a buisness to make money for the shelter or let the workers take what they think they want ?????

Wizdumb-I hope you live a long, miserable, unhappy life and have plenty of time to dwell on how heartless and inconsiderate you are.

wiz - "dumb" kinda says it all. Well said Mike. Be thankful you have never needed a shelter wizdumb. Just because someone is having a rough go at it. Does not ALWAYS equate to being a bum. Sure there are exceptions to that but no need to have zero empathy at all and call them names. Shame on on you!!

I'm not ignorant, I don't see the need for a bum shelter in North Platte. There's a million programs to be used other than the bum shelter. Esp women with children. No matter how much you polish it, it's still a bum shelter in this case.

Wizdumb you are very ignorant. The Lincoln Connection doesn't offer three hots and a cot to any transient on the street, they have very strict rules that must be followed and the majority of people staying there are families who are down on their luck. The people you see panhandling on street corners don't want the help that the shelter offers, they are perfectly happy taking change from strangers so that they can buy booze and drugs.
