The Department of Nebraska Disabled American Veterans is sponsoring a fundraiser to aid their transportation program. The VFW and the American Legion posts in Stapleton pitched in Monday to get the fundraiser started, when six members purchased tickets to raise money, and bought a chance to win cash prizes too.
The winner of the contest will receive $5,000, and the next 44 winners will share $15,000, said David Olson, the commander of the DAV, Chapter 3 in the North Platte area.
"I don't sell raffle tickets," Olson said. "I ask the potential buyers if they think the service provided by the DAV -- transporting veterans from North Platte to the Grand Island VA Medical Center and back -- is of value, and if they do I offer them a chance to purchase a ticket."
The $10 tickets my be purchased from several members of chapter 3 of the DAV. They must be purchased before June 1.
The winning tickets will be drawn at the DAV convention on June 15. Proceeds will help fund the transportation network program in Nebraska, Olson said.
