Robert S. Maltz, 57 and Marcus J. Maltz, 28, both from Idaho Springs, Colo. were arrested Friday for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. The father and son were stopped at 1:20 p.m. on I-80 for speeding at mile marker 195, about 17 miles east of North Platte. Trooper J.J. Connelly found in four packages of pot, weighing a total of 3.6 pounds in the spare tire well of the car - a 2013 Dodge Dart. The pair were traveling east. They had rented the car in Colorado and were headed to the Chicago area, Connelly said. The two were taken to the Lincoln County Jail and each charged with possession of marijuana and possession with intent to deliver. Bond was set at $25,000. By Sunday they had paid 10 percent of their bonds and were released. Connelly said law officers suspect that a large quantity of pot is coming out of Colorado from the medical dispensary process, either from growers or the back doors of dispensaries, which are legal in Colorado. Dealers look to illegally sell it in other parts of the country. Colorado voters also agreed to legalize small quantities of pot in November, but those state laws won't take effect until early next year, spelling out the dos and don'ts of retail smoking parlors.
