Nathan V. Atene

At around 11:15 p.m. Saturday, police went to the 700 block of East Philip to check out a report of a man damaging property inside a house.

The found Nathan V. Atene, 38, sitting on the front steps of the residence covered with blood. Officers determined that he had fallen and injured himself due to an extreme state of intoxication.

Atene became belligerent. He refused to follow the officers’ directions and then became aggressive and threatened to assault one of the cops, so he was restrained and handcuffed, police information officer Rodney Brown said.

Atene was arrested and charged with obstructing a police officer and resisting arrest, class 1 misdemeanors, as well as an active Cherry County warrant.

His father Nathaniel L. Atene, 65, was present during the incident, Brown said.

Bond was set at $25,000.
