The Hershey girls basketball team claimed the consolation prize at the Nebraska state basketball tournament Saturday, defeating Homer, 64-59, in a hard-fought game. Hershey led from the beginning until midway through the third quarter, when Homer finally got the lead after chipping away at an early deficit. Hershey (22-5) took a slight edge in the final minutes and held it. Hershey's Maegan Hiatt clinched the game in the final seconds with a steal and layup to finally give the Panthers a comfortable margin. Hiatt finished the game with 27 points. Daynlee Miller, the career all-time leading scorer for the Lady Panthers, scored 14 points in her final high school game. Maddie Seamann had 11 in the victory. Homer finished the season with a 24-5 record. Hershey defeated North Platte St. Pat's in the opening round of the tournament, 53-34, but lost to Hastings St. Cecilia 52-42 in the second round. Crofton (26-0) defeated St. Cecilia Saturday 43-31, to remain undefeated and win the tournament.
