LINCOLN-Brooke Bauer scored 20 points on Thursday to lead O'Neill St. Mary's to a 52-34 win over Sutherland in the first round of the state girls' basketball tournament. The Lady Sailors end their season with a record of 20-6. St. Mary's, the No. 4 seed, took control of the game in the second quarter and the Cardinals led 26-16 at halftime. The team from O'Neill continued to have its way in the second half and closed the game out by winning the fourth quarter, 14-8. St. Mary's (23-2) will play top-seed Pender in the Class D1 semifinals. In the season ending loss, Sutherland was led by Jalyne Schuster with 11 points. Joli Hopping followed with seven for the Sailors. Sam Kennedy and Sam Staggs both had six.
