The North Platte Community College Knights menís basketball team checked into the national rankings at No. 22 this week, after marching to a 25-5 season record and finishing the regular season on a seven game win streak The Knights head into the regional tournament with a 13-3 record against Region IX opponents.
The Knights head to Casper, Wyo. for the Region IX Tournament, which will be held March 2-6. The Knights enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed from the south subregion after wining the subregion by two games.
The Knights will square off with the No. 8 seed from the north subregion, the Dawson Community College Buccaneers (6-22, 3-13 Region IX) at 4 p.m. on Saturday March 2 CST.
The Knights have had a well balanced attack, boasting four players in double figure point totals. Ethan Montalvo leads the way with 15.5 points per game, followed closely by Reath Jiech (11.2 ppg), Damon Brown (10.6 ppg) and Ben Wilson (10.4).
The Buccaneers are led by Jaden Welsh who averages 11.8 ppg.
Should the Knights defeat the Buccaneers they will advance to play in the quarterfinals at 4 p.m. CST on March 4 against the winner of the Gillette College Pronghorns (16-12, 10-6 Region IX) and the Eastern Wyoming College Lancers (16-13, 8-8 Region IX).
The tournament continues March 5 with semifinal games at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. CST, with the Knights' half of the bracket competing in the first game.
The championship game will be held on March 6 at 8 p.m.
