North Platte Optometrist Dr. Kim Baxter was recently elected chairman of Nebraska’s Board of Optometry. Baxter was initially nominated by the Board of Health and Human Services and appointed by Gov. Dave Heineman to begin serving on the Board of Optometry in 2007. He was re-appointed this past year to a second term. Other members of the Nebraska Board of Optometry are Dr. James Kirchner (Past-chair) of Lincoln, Dr. Jeffrey Pape (Vice-chair) of Norfolk, and lay member Dr. Michael O’Hara of Omaha. The Board of Optometry is a regulating body responsible for protecting the public’s health and safety and to promote the welfare of the state by regulating the competency and quality of professional healthcare providers under its jurisdiction. The board accomplishes this mandate through a variety of activities, working through the Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Baxter is in practice with Dr. Jeff O’Connor and Dr. Scott French at Complete Eyecare Associates in North Platte.
