The age 16 and under North Platte Express finished second Saturday and Sunday at the Below Zero indoor softball tournament. The tournament was held at the Lancaster Event Center in Lincoln.
In the first game, the Express got off to a slow start and fell 3-0 to the 18U Vortex, but came out firing on all cylinders in game two as they shutout the North Platte Sensations 4-0.
Kaite Franzen got the win for the Express.
In game 3 Express Catcher Mikenzi Wiseman's homerun helped propel the Express to a 8-3 win over the 16U Swingers. Kaitlyn Schultz was the winning pitcher.
In game 4 Express Outfielder Christina Yoshida hit a homerun to help the Express defeat the 16U Vortex 10-2. Shayla Kummer was the winning pitcher.
In single elimination tournament action, the Express defeated the 16U Swingers 6-3, behind a strong hitting performance by Bri Schade. Kaite Franzen was the winning pitcher.
The Express took on the 18U Vortex in the championship game. The Express jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but the Vortex came back to win 7-5. Bri Schade took the loss.
