The North Platte Community College Lady Knights womenís basketball team (13-14) fell 76-67 to the Eastern Wyoming Lady Lancers (20-8).
The teams battled back and forth through the first 16 minutes of the first half as the game was knotted at 23 apiece. The Lady Lancers then used a 15-6 run to take a 38-29 into the locker room at half, turning several turnovers into easy lay-ups. The Lady Knights scored all six points from the free-throw line to remain in striking distance. Paige Hasty led the Lady Knights with 9 points while Brittany Cross had 9 at intermission for the Lady Lancers.
In the second half, the Lady Knights came out firing and battled hard to get the game knotted up with three minutes to go. The Lady Lancers responded by outscoring the Lady Knights by 9 down the stretch to take home the victory.
The Lady Knights were well balanced on the offensive end of the floor as they had four players in double figures, led by Paige Hasty with 17 points. Lacey Houston chipped in 16, DaVontaye Merritt had 14 and Candice Shelton 11 in the losing effort.
Brittany Cross led Eastern Wyoming with 21 points and Jai Chandler with 16.
Next, the Lady Knights will play in the Region IX Division II Championship game Monday, March 4 at home in McDonald-Belton Gymnasium by virtue of winning the regular season championship.
The Lady Knights will face the winner of the Southeast Community College Lady Storm (17-12) and Central Community College Lady Raiders (9-15) semifinal game on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at Southeast.
The winner moves on to play the Region XIII Champion for the District F Championship.
