Count I alleges that beginning on or about Oct. 1 and continuing until Nov. 25, Keup conspired with others to distribute, and possess with intent to distribute, five grams or more of actual methamphetamine.

Count II alleges that on or about Nov. 2, Keup possessed with intent to distribute five grams or more of actual methamphetamine.

Each charge carries a minimum of five years in federal prison and a maximum of 40 years, so if convicted, Keup faces a maximum sentence of 80 years. In addition, $10 million in fines could be levied against him.

U.S. Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced 26 grand jury indictments, charging 30 defendants.

Indictments are charging documents that contain one or more individual counts that are merely accusations, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty, she said.

Keup is currently in the Lincoln County Jail. He was arrested during a traffic stop Nov. 11.

He pled not guilty Feb. 11 to several charges – possession of adderall, two counts of distributing methamphetamine and possession of a deadly weapon by a restricted person.

Keup served 10 years in the state penitentiary for manslaughter in the shooting of an 18-year-old North Platte girl in 2000 with a .25-caliber semi-automatic that he had bought for $78.

His case attracted widespread attention.

He was 16 at the time and maintained it was an accident. As a prisoner, Keup was influential in efforts to modify life sentences for teenage criminals.

He became an artist and won honors at both the Nebraska State Fair as well as the 2012 Nebraskaland Days art show.

In prison, he became a member of and designed a logo for a group of prisoners called STOP – Stand Together On Purpose, a group dedicated to battling recidivism – the pattern of criminals returning to crime, and consequently to prison.

Keup was released from prison in July 2011 after a court found no evidence of intent to commit murder.

He has lived in North Platte since his release.

this guy was given a chance not many in his position get. He has now proven he didn't deserve a 2nd chance. His victim certainly didn't get any 2nd chances.

dntjudgehim, no it's not o.k.! But you are doing nothing about it either but venting on here! There are reports and complaints on file at our state representatives office's on these so called officers! I suggest for you to contact your state representatives and complain also. These bad officers are only here because of bad leaders. Birds of a feather!

Really? "A Career Criminal" You dont know what your talking about. Do you know all the details? Or you believe everything the CODE task force says? Do you know there are people on that force that are selling and doing drugs in North Platte right now? But I suppose you say thats acceptable RIGHT? If your going to judge, judge all the same.

Another big thank you to judges who unleash a criminal on the unsuspecting public. For God sakes he killed someone, that is person is dead, Keup is alive and everyone is crying, gnashing their teeth, pulling their hair. You would think that educated people like judges would not be taken in by sob stories and bleeding hearts who care about the worst in society and don't mind unleashing them on innocent people. This is a disgrace.

Realizing my last sentence didn't make a lot of sense. I think I still made my point...

One thing I do know is this... I would never, ever wish a federal indictment on the family of the indicted. It is a terrifying experience. There are so few places to go to find answers about what is likely to happen to your loved one. I know this from experience...an experience I wish I could save any parent from enduring. If you must pass judgment on Tyler, if you are actually qualified TO pass judgment...& if you don't have a heart enough to feel his parent's pain... shut up!!

I'm fairly certain that his actions, the one's he had control over, are what brought him into the public light. I mean, if he, or anyone in similar circumstances had just decided NOT to do it, they never would have been revealed to the public light...

Tyler will pay his due! But those of you who sit here and judge him as a carreer criminal only do so because he was brought in the public light. If your that dedicated to justice, nevermind, if I have to explain you wouldn't understand.

They spend many hours trying to catch a meth user, but local cops can go to parties and smoke dope and abuse their authority and nothing!

Now maybe some people will see him for who he is,”a career criminal” and quit defending him. He has done nothing to be a better person since he somehow convinced some bleeding hearts to let him out of prison early for a murder charge. I say give him and others like him the maximum and don’t let him out until he has served every day of the sentence. He should not be elgible for good time either
