North Platte officials declared a snow emergency at 6 p.m. Wednesday as light snow started to fall, advising residents to move cars off main streets.

A storm moved into the area that had dumped seven inches by Thursday afternoon.

A city snow emergency declaration dictates that all vehicles and trailers parked on a snow emergency route, as marked by small red, white and blue signs, must be removed from the street so snow plows can keep main routes open no matter how bad it gets.

Cars that are parked on the emergency routes can be ticketed and towed away, city officials said in the declaration.

Officers issued 46 parking tickets to vehicles that violated the ban on parking along the city's emergency snow routes, Police Information Officer Rodney Brown said.

The no parking order will remain in effect until further notice, city officials said Thursday afternoon.

Gabby! ,There are NO city plows that are that old and even if they were we have not had that many bad winters in the last few years with proper maintaining they will last a long time they need to learn to be more proactive instead of reactive should of been out last night at 10 pm plus the city budgets every year for snow remove and equipment and have not had to use much of it this year funny thing was yesterday at about 10:30 I saw a city Street sweeper out now that is really dumb and a waste of money !

Want some entertainment. follow a couple of the trucks arond after dark and see where they go and how often the blades are down and how often sand is spread.from what i've seen you'll find it funny or be really pissed depending on how much taxes you pay.

All of you complaining you must realize the snow plows are over 25 years old. Trucks were called out at 4am BEFORE state trucks. State and county haven't been on the road yet. You want snow removal then have the city set aside the funds to update equipment and provide services. The city workers will work 14 hour shifts with 4 hours off and it will continue through Sunday. Get yourself off the road and let them do their job. Further complaints contact the Mayor and Jim Hawks or learn to drive a truck and do it yourself.

You people are entertaining. You complain when they don't plow snow, and then you complain when they do. If you don't like it don't leave your house!

Why would it matter. It's not like anyone's cleaning the roads anyways. I was out at 7 am and there wasn't a single truck out. Thanks city of north platte. I'm sure next year they will want new trucks for snow removal. What a joke.
