Quincey C. Shugart

The road to marriage turned rocky on Friday for Quincey C. Shugart of North Platte when he had a fight with his new wife, wrecked his pickup and landed in jail.

Shugart, 34, was just out of jail. He and Dawn Vanmeter received a marriage license from the Lincoln County Clerk. They were riding in Shugart's 1994 Ford F-150 pickup Friday night when they got into an argument that turned physical.

Not only were they arguing as they drove east on Second St., police said Shugart was punching Vanmeter when he lost control of his pickup and hit a parked car near Second and Welch. He backed up, changed direction and drove north on Welch, but within a block he ran into a utility pole.

The wrecks happened around 9:45 p.m.

Shugart was charged with felony assault for hitting Vanmeter, and he also ran away, only to be picked up a little later near East Fifth and Eastman. He was charged for leaving the scene of both accidents – a property accident and an injury accident.

Leaving an injury accident is a felony.

Both Shugart and Vanmeter were taken to the hospital before Shugart was jailed.

Shugart's pickup was totaled. Compounding the problems, his auto insurance expired on Feb. 1, police said.

Police estimate the damage to the parked car, a 2002 Chevy Cavalier, amounted to $1,200.

He was initially held without bond, but his bond was $25,000 on Sunday.

It's been a tough few months for Shugart, who is believed to have stabbed Luke Ressegieu, 23, around 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day in a parking lot on East Fourth.

Shugart was charged with second-degree aggravated assault with a weapon and served 87 days in jail for the offense. He had just gotten out, according to sheriff’s records.

This report was updated Sunday.

I don't know Mr. Shugart, but I do know a couple things. 1. Real Men don't hit women. 2.Mr. Shugart is not a Real Man!

@ charlemange I disagree, I believe we the people can give him what he needs. There was a system in the Old West for dealing with these types of things. It was cvalled the MEN of the community straightening him out. If the police would let us do our job without charges we could fix many of these problems in town. Especially with the out of control teens and young adults. Correction is essential to proper upbringing.

He went to prison for beating his last wife. Now he has beat this new wife. Sending both women to the hospital with severe injuries. What he needs, we the people can't give him but the system needs to lock this wife beater away for a good long time.

Ok loudmama, Tyler Kuep murdered someone and should have never got the reprieve he received or let out of prison. As far as Shugart goes, he did not murder someone. I think they are both scum and deserve to rot in prison.

And yet Tyler Keup sits in jail without no bond reduction, why??? Doesn't any of this crap seem weird to anyone else. It is sooo obvious that something internal is going on, you get arrested, don't snitch, get treated like shit in jail and still sit there same as the first day. Then you get arrested, snitch and get out with almost no punishment, reoffend even worse than the first offense. WHAT THE F***! Am I in a twighlight zone or something. Please tell me other people see this and why is nothing being done!!!!

Hmmm 87 days he served you say?? Pretty sure those records are wrong!! I have seen this fool driving around town atleast once every two weeks!! So I can stab someone and not even get 3 months in jail? What about the drugs he had on him?? Did they forget about those ?? I guess that is what happens when you're a snitch! As far as Dawn I'm sorry she went through this but at the same time I know for a fact she knew why he went to prison last time so it's not like she wasn't well aware of what type of person he is!

This is the same guy from the stabbing on Thanksgiving day over drugs right? Hopefully his wife will leave him. Hopefully she isn't hooked on meth like he is. Sounds like he needs help or sent to the pen again.
