Rainfall turned to snow Saturday night and winds pushed around some six inches of snow in the North Platte area, launching a week of forecasted colder winter weather. As much as 12 inches of snow was forecast along with winds gusting to 55 miles an hour, but the blizzard failed to materialize. The National Weather Service reported 0.30 of an inch of moisture through Sunday morning. The temperature will dip Sunday night to around 10 degrees and 20-30 mph winds will drive the wind-chill index to zero, the weather service said. Winds will die down Monday but colder weather will remain, with an occasional high of 40 degrees or so during the week. The longer-range outlook is not particularly encouraging. AccuWeather predicts big storms with more moisture in coming weeks, especially over the eastern half of the nation.
