Boys BB: NPHS 73, Alliance 51Tell North Platte what you think

It's not called the East-West Shootout for nothing.

North Platte made 10 three-pointers on Friday night to beat Alliance 73-51 at the Dawg House.

The Dawgs (14-5) scored the first eight points of the game on threes by Kade Erickson and Jack Kenny, along with a basket by Drew Callaghan.

But as it proved to be a theme in the first half, Alliance (8-11) came right back with a three by Isaac Burnham and a jumper by Trevor Kamerzell.

With 18 seconds left in the first quarter, NPHS went up 21-11 after Luke Wright's putback of a Kenny miss.

But Alliance didn't back down and the Bulldogs tied the game at 24 all with 4:36 left in the first half.

North Platte scored the next nine after that and the Dawgs took a 33-24 lead with just over two minutes until halftime after a Kenny three.

The Bulldogs continued to battle back with Jordan Mills knocking down a three and Burnham scoring a basket afterward to pull within two.

Callaghan made a turnaround jumper from 10 feet out with two seconds left to give NPHS a 35-31 lead at halftime.

"We had a great start," said Dawg coach Matt Kaminski. "Against their zone, we got a little complacent in the second quarter. We didn't get stops and Alliance made some shots."

Erickson drained a trey and Wright scored inside to begin the second half and give North Platte a nine-point lead.

From there, the lead just kept growing and the Dawgs' defense intensified. At the end of the third quarter, NPHS led 54-36 before putting it away in the fourth.

"In the third quarter, we contested shots a little more," Kaminski said. "We got turnovers and we got in a rhythm."

On Saturday, North Platte will play Scottsbluff, who is coming off of a double overtime victory at McCook in a battle of two of Class B's top-ranked teams. The scheduled start time has been moved from 2 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. due to potential inclement weather.
